The day before Christmas Eve, fifteen years ago, a fire swept through hour home and destroyed life as we knew it. I see many similarities of this event with the story of “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” The fire zoomed through our home and melted all our christmas decorations, presents, and holiday feast. Thankfully no one in our family was hurt. My brother, Trevor (13 years old), was home when the fire started. He was home sick, but still managed to get three dogs safely out of the house. Christmas Eve, our family of 7 was left homeless, disoriented, scared and shocked. We had literally experienced the Night Mare before Christmas. 2 days later Christmas came, it came without ribbons, it came without tags, it came without packages boxes or bags. It did bring together a family and a reminder of what the holidays are supposed to be about; giving love and being together.
The meaning of the holidays often gets confused with material commercialism. It has infused a different meaning of what christmas is supposed to be about.
Today my family is “Celebrating” the anniversary of “How the Fire Stole Christmas” but in reality it gave us much more than we realized at the time. It was an actually an event that brought our family together and reminded us of the importance of the holiday season. I wish everyone the best holiday with no nightmares before Christmas. This Christmas celebrate each other by giving your time and love to one another and cherish every second of it.

One thing that has always puzzled me was the amount of bikers on campus who do not wear helmets while riding around campus. Every time I see someone without a helmet I want to scream “HEY MORON WEAR A HELMET!” I hold back, gritting my teeth, just hoping they stay safe. For all those of you who think helmets are not a necessity or that helmets are inconvenience to your wonderful hair day-news flash, a helmet can save your life! I equate riding a bike without a helmet to, running with scissors, owning a bangle tiger, playing with a loaded gun, jumping out of a plane without a parachute confident you will land easily on your feet. I personally like a little adrenaline rush, but I would be out of my mind before I did any of those things. However inconvenient or however bad my hair will look I will always be an advocate for helmets on bicycles AND motorcycle. We have one life, do whatever you can to protect it, something so simple as a helmet can save your life, why wouldn’t you wear one? If you love your mom and your dad, if you want to share your ness with the world, be safe and please WEAR A HELMET! Enjoy the road!

Reliving the shot! Holy cow it was so incredible!! Paul Pierce just made a three, with 5 seconds left the whole crowd is chanting Mario Mario Mario….. He gets the ball and……. I stop recording because Allen FieldHouse was INSANE, guess you had to be there :)incredible. There is no greater basketball venue. Rock Chalk fellow Jayhawks, it is an honor to be a Jayhawk!!!
